I have been to the Audley Dance Hall Café and Events at Audley a few times now and every time I have been there (twice for lunch and once for breakfast), I haven’t been disappointed as the food has been very tasty and the service has been first class.
The sunshade will give your protection while dining outside.
The first time was visiting the owners of the Audley Boat Shed as I was putting together a review for Weekend Notes on what they had on offer. At the time the new owners had just taken over the establishment and were carrying out a few renovations to the café and I could only grab a quick bite to eat while sitting outside.
They were also in the process of creating a new menu for the café and the function hall. Due to the renovations I could only get a toasted ham, cheese and tomato sandwich - which was simple and delightful. The cheese was just runny enough to blend through the tomato and stick to the ham.
The second time around the renovations had been finished, the kitchen was in full swing and I had the chance to dine inside the café. I went at around one o'clock so there were quite a few customers already sitting down having their meals. I found a table and sat down.
The queue has started.
There were quite a number of staff serving and bringing out various meals and cleaning up tables, but nobody was coming over to see me. I did feel a bit left out.
One thing I did find was that a few other people were doing the same thing, until I noticed a number of people getting up and joining the queue. So I left my hat on the table, got myself a menu, joined the queue and then placed my order of the Beef Burger with tomato, lettuce, cheese, caramelised onions, special sauce, toasted bun and cross cut fries for $16.50.
Beef burger - tomato, lettuce, cheese, caramelised onions, special sauce, toasted bun and cross cut fries.
Even though they were very busy it didn’t take long for the meal to arrive and a couple of things took my eye. One was the size of the burger and the cross cut fries. I have never seen chips done that way before.
The combination of the lightly toasted bun, cooked-to-perfection beef and the rest of the filling was great. I didn’t leave a crumb. The cross cut fries were crispy on the outside, while being slightly soft on the inside.
Overall the food and service was great, except that I wasn’t quite sure whether I had to order first or sit down and wait for someone to come and take my order. Now that I know I will be ready for next time I pay the café a visit.
Check out the cakes.
The way that the café was set up was great and there was plenty of leg room at each of the tables, both inside and out. The rustic look of the old timber columns and beams gave it that old fashioned look. The seating inside was of a booth type, while the outside had square glass tables with high back chairs.
A couple of other things were that the café has a small supply of magazines if ever you felt the need for a read over your breakfast, brunch or lunch. When you've finished, you could wander over the Royal National Parks Visitors centre counter and find out where to go next.
If you are dining by yourself you might like to catch up on the latest events.
While you're there check out what's happening at the RNP visitors centre.
Another thing to note are the small bunch of fresh wild flowers in a vase on each of the tables. Quite a nice touch, I thought.
The flowers were a nice touch.
