The Bakehouse on Wentworth chain can be found throughout the Blue Mountains region. The original Bakehouse is located in Blackheath with retail outlets in Leura, Springwood and Glenbrook.

Bakehouse on Wentworth, Springwood.
If you're travelling to, or from the Blue Mountains, make sure you plan a stop at one of the Bakehouses. The Bakehouse on Wentworth in Springwood offers gourmet pies, organic sourdough breads, cakes, sandwiches and coffees. It feels much more like a café than a bakery, with both indoor and outdoor seating available.

Tender steak, bacon and cheese.
Gourmet pies are handmade every day at Blackheath and delivered to each of the retail outlets. Whilst they're expensive, the pies are large enough for a main meal. I recommend trying the tender steak, bacon and cheese pie ($7). The pastry is expertly made and the juicy cuts of steak melt in your mouth. The addition of melted cheese and delicious bacon pieces really sets this pie apart from all the others.

The Bakehouse also offers a range of cakes such as chocolate and chestnut mud cake ($30), sticky date cake ($26) and flourless chocolate cake ($26). For $8.50 you can get a regular coffee with a slice of the 'cake of the day.'

Gourmet pies, sausage rolls and quiche
Visit early in the morning for the best variety of cakes, pastries and pies. These bakeries are very popular, so you might be disappointed if you arrive late in the afternoon and find there aren't many options available.
