Cucina105 is a restaurant, bar and pizzeria located on Moore Street in Liverpool. The restaurant serves modern Italian cuisine and is also a popular function venue.
Cucina105 on a quiet Friday night.
I visited Cucina105 late on a Friday night and found the restaurant to be fairly quiet. There is plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors, and a subtle Italian theme throughout.
The arancini vegetariani.
For a bit of variety, and so we could sample a little more, we decided to order from the antipasti menu. The arancini vegetariani ($14.90) was a plate of three vegetarian rice balls filled with peas and mozzarella cheese in a rocket pesto. I found this dish a little dry, it definitely needed to be accompanied by a sauce or greater serving of pesto.
A very Mediterranean dish of grilled cheese and vegetables.
The halloumi con verdure alla griglia ($16.90) was a stack of cheese with grilled eggplant, zucchini and capsicum. While this dish was beautiful to look at, the balsamic reduction served with the cheese seemed a little overcooked and was too thick to actually spread over the dish.
Balmain bugs in a lobster bisque - definitely the dish of the night.
The last plate to come out was the aragostine di mare alla portofino ($16.90). The Balmain bugs were well cooked and the lobster bisque sauce was lightly spiced with chilli and garlic. This was by far the best dish of the night and had it arrived earlier, the sauce would have gone perfectly with the arancini balls.
The bar at Cucina105
Cucina105's staff were very helpful and the meals were prepared quickly. Unfortunately, the dishes weren't as tasty as I would have hoped and we left feeling rather unsatisfied.
