Cool me down in a chilled ambience
If I was to sum up my experiences at
El Loco at Slip Inn: hot, hip and mexican indeed.
Saturday afternoons in Sydney rule, and therefore one can easily be overwhelmed with the variety of choices of where to eat, drink and soak up the sun - but if delicious canteen style Mexican food, icy tequila laced cocktails, and an all round chilled vibe are on your hit list: there is one very hot option.
Welcome to El Loco at Slip Inn.

A cool place to unwind
The walls welcome you with brightness, with the courtyard looking more like a scene of a carnival than that of a pub garden. Expect an abundance of bright coloured fiesta flags dancing in the breeze, and fluro bar stools casually perched at wooden benches - purposefully designed for sharing conversations and good times.
Like all good parties, the introduction of an inviting cocktail list - with a delicious fast food menu is sure to get the soul smiling.

Really love the ambience here
Having first opened in early 2013 - El Loco is the larger locale of the two Merivale Mexican bars, with the smaller original El Loco located at the Excelsior Hotel in Surry Hills. In contrast between the two, the Slip Inn location offers a larger space for groups with more of an outdoor appeal with the courtyard set up, gearing towards the crowds of summer loving Sydney siders.

A Mexican Fiesta
I have always waived the food fan flag for the amazing Dan Hong El Loco hot dogs ($10) that take fast food to a new level of gourmet fare. No visit is complete without them. Consisting of a house made frank and pico de gallo, together with lashings of kewpie mayonnaise - with surprise bites of Jalapeno chilies with a cheese layered topping: the marriage of flavours is taken to a whole new level.

For something a bit lighter yet equally delicious, look at ordering the Chorizo Quesadilla ($7) - comprising of a flavoursome combination of chorizo, cheese and crunchy Jalapeno chilies sandwiched in a fresh tortilla.

Yum, that cheese.
Now to the cocktail list. Absolutely, an impressive mind field of fruity, flirty flavours from the classic margarita ($14.50) to the Pink Cuco ($14.50) - you can’t go wrong. My personal favourite is the Passionfruit Batida - made with tequila, pink grapefruit and lime juices served with fresh passionfruit and agave juice.
El Loco at Slip Inn is great for afternoon drinks with friends, or for reserving a few tables and having a celebration. The atmosphere is lively with a vibrant soundtrack, playing anything from the retro 1960’s hits to today's best house.
