Four ate Five is a quirky, cute and friendly place to spend that spare half hour waiting for your appointment in the area, or grab a quick take away coffee...or meet up with friends you haven't seen in a while. It really ticks all the boxes you can think of for a coffee house, with one possible exception being quietness. Situated at 485 Crown Street (clever naming wasn't it - you can't forget where it is!) there's little chance that you'll find this place empty or super quiet, either because of fellow patrons or the bustling outside traffic. Go there during off times between breakfast and lunch hours though, and you might even be in luck if you're looking for a quiet place to study, or need to get out of the nearby Surry Hills Community Centre Library. There are some quiet corners for nestling too, and although I didn't test it out - there is apparently free wifi here..so rare for Sydney.
Theres a decent amount of seating; nice natural light and some fabulous art to soak up while you catch up on your day/week/month with someone. Snack foods such as kumara chips with aioli are always on the menu, and they do the usual array of hot and cold drinks and brunch dishes.
The food is creative, made with love, and all attention goes into the flavour experience with house baked treats and frequent specials to keep regulars coming back for more (see the website below for more on those).
Another great bonus I noticed on my latest catch up session at Four ate Five was the fact that we were not rushed at all by the staff, and we appreciated that given we were there during the time they started to close up. That type of respect for the customer is worth more than just the price of a cup of coffee; it's worth repeat business.
