The delightful beef dish that started off our feast.
What an awesome culinary experience we had at Lake Seafood Chinese Restaurant in Norwest recently. Having passed the place so many times on our way to the nearby swimming school, we finally we decided to give it a go last night. As we entered the premises one thing I noticed was how spacious it was inside. The décor is simple with dark red painted feature walls and delightful artwork. While only a couple of staff members seemed to be manning the entire room, they all worked with efficiency and enthusiasm.
Duck as it should be.
The menu has quite a selection, everything from vegetables, lamb, pork, duck and chicken to prawns and lobster. The menu also offered plenty of variety with different styles of cooking to choose from as well.
Since it was our first time at the restaurant we were ready to try out as many dishes as possible - in the end our order went on and on. We chose Cantonese style beef fillet steak, crispy skin chicken with crab meat sauce, red curry roast duck, sizzling seafood combination and special soft shell crab, as well as a hefty serving of both plain and fried rice.
A seafood rhapsody.
The wait for the food to arrive was quite long - my daughter even suggested that we order before coming next time so that the food would be ready by the time we got there. When our food did finally arrive we all sighed with relief. While they take their time preparing meals at Golden Lake, when it does arrive it all comes in quick succession, and it is definitely worth the wait.
The beef fillet steak ($19.50) which was tossed onto a sizzling hot griddle in front of us was absolutely delicious. The plate was finished in no time by the hungry bunch that eagerly awaited its arrival. Out of all the dishes we devoured, the chicken in crab meat sauce ($18.50) was, without question, my favorite. The thick white broth filled with crab meat and poured over the chicken proved itself to be a heavenly treat on the taste buds. While all the dishes we ordered were a great size, and rather delicious to boot, I was admittedly not much of a fan of the soft shell crab ($25.90). While the soft shell crab is good, it's definitely not the best, plus the actual amount of crab meaty in the dish just seemed a little meagre.
Chicken in crab broth; my favourite dish of the night.
All-in-all a meal at Golden Lake is a very pleasant experience. A special mention should be made to the staff, who were extremely friendly and helpful. They also insisted we should not leave without taking our fortune cookies - and I'm sure glad I did. Apparently I will come to a windfall very soon, but as I tore the paper I think I may have jinxed my fortune. Who knows, we'll have to wait and see.
