The windows show a selection of what's to come inside

Over the last few years I made the commitment to myself that I would buy less meat with my groceries, but what I did buy would be of a high quality. I also decided that I wanted to find a place where the people know exactly what has gone into the meat, and can talk to you about it. This is how I came to shop regularly at Penny's Quality Butchers in Mosman.

Ready to cook meals are available as well as any cut of meat

I have to say straight away that the customer service at Penny's brings me back time and time again. All of the butchers there are so friendly, and I've never had to wait to be served, even though it is always busy. They are happy for me to ask questions, and when I'm not quite sure what I'm after, the staff can usually can figure it out for me. Added to that, they will cut up anything that I want, in the way that I want. I've even seen them chop chicken into small pieces for a couple of young men who wanted to use it as fishing bait.

Other items to go along with your meat are also sold

But it's also the quality of the meat that keeps bringing me back. Because they really live up to the 'Quality' in their name. Steaks are sitting in a full slab of meat, and are carved off to the exact size that you want. A number of fat gourmet sausages are on offer, and all of them are gluten free (try the mint, rosemary and lamb ones, which are my favourite). The chicken is fresh, and you can even get whole free range chickens.

It's not only meat at Penny's Quality Butchers though. They also sell a number of home made and speciality items. Home made pate, winter soups, stocks, pies and sausage rolls are also on offer, as well as a number of deli items like chutneys and jams, as well as free range eggs. At Christmas time you can also get Christmas cakes.

Pork pies, pasties, cured and smoked meats.

Speaking of Christmas, Penny's Quality Butchers also do Christmas hams. I'd already bought mine when I found the butcher last year, but the Christmas Eve line that stretched down the block at 7:00 in the morning should testify to the quality of the Christmas hams they do.

It might not look much on the outside, but these looks are deceiving.

Penny's also has a freezer full of specialities like organic baby food, carpaccio and boerewors sausages. Down one end is a section full of cured and smoked deli meats, and offal is also sold. While I'm there, I also like to pick up some meat for my dog, as they have a few different varieties put aside - especially for the four legged friends.

Such a huge variety

Penny's Quality Butchers has actually been such a pleasant place for me that I no longer shop anywhere else for my meat. The prices are all great, and I feel as if I'm getting more out of my meat than if I'd bought it at a grocery store like in years past. And best of all, I always leave with a smile on my face from being wished a great day by the friendly people who work there.
