Stir Crazy Noodle Bar in Castle Hill is one of the places I often passed by but never got a chance to walk in. Set just outside the piazza in Castle Towers, Stir Crazy is not hard to locate. The crowds floating in and out of the bar actually prompted me to go in and try a Stir Crazy meal. As in any noodle bar, here too it's a choice: an order, cook and serve system that takes place.
First is to choose a type of noodle you'd like from a selection of fresh noodles then you have to select. Then it is time to select which cooking style you fancy ranging from Chinese, Malay, and Thai to even Aussie and Indian. Then you select what ingredients go in your stir fry. Once you have gone through the three steps, you pay at the counter, get a table number and patiently wait for your noodles to be cooked and brought to your table.
For the price they charge, the serving portions are definitely pretty large. Not all choices we ordered were to my taste. The flat noodle my daughter ordered which was done to Malay flavours tasted a bit too bland unlike most Malay noodles I had tasted before.
The Pad Thai noodle that I ordered was exceptionally good in taste. The potion was too large for me to finish, but thankfully you can fetch a take away container yourself from the counter by chucking 30 cents in a till which came in handy to bring the left overs back home for my breakfast next day.
Even though all the noodle dishes at our table were not to my liking, I guess the trick at a noodle bar is to try and find out what you like the best, and then stick to that. I feel the flavour I will stick to at Stir Crazy Noodle Bar would definitely have to be Pad Thai.
The way they do the vegetables at Stir Crazy was definitely to my liking. The vegetables were not over cooked as in many other noodle places, but just cooked enough with that crunch still remaining.
The place itself is quite large with enough seating inside and outside. The service is pretty quick, considering how busy the place was on a Thursday night.
