Taren Point Hotel
For a lighter meal, a steak sandwich is a delicious choice.

If you want value in a pub meal, youíll enjoy the bistro at the Taren Point Hotel, just on the southern side of the Captain Cook Bridge. They serve a good size meal at a good price.

In keeping with todayís trends, you can see the kitchen and the chefs busily working away preparing the meals while your order is taken.

We arrived for an early lunch, and there werenít too many people there at the time. By the time we had finished, the place was packed, and that was a weekday. I imagine on weekends itís even busier, so be early to get your choice of tables.

Caesar salad with chicken

I had one of the lighter meals - a steak sandwich. The plate was full of fresh green salad and chips alongside my nicely cooked steak on Turkish bread (my favourite). There was just the right amount of barbecue sauce spread on the bread - not too little, not too much.

My wife had a Caesar salad with the optional chicken, and again the serving was generous.

The choice is good, and the prices are reasonable.

The choice of larger meals is great for a bistro, with steaks, pasta, and seafood; and they have a selection of meals for two. There is also a specials board from which you can choose.

The bar was close by when you needed to order your drink - not all the way across the other end of the hotel, like some pubs and clubs.

The dining area is not too noisy, and the gaming machines are in another area of the hotel, so you donít need to put up with the incessant bells and whistles that they produce.

The courtyard is a pleasant place to have your meal

There is a large courtyard outside with plenty of seats, although not entirely comfortable.

TV screens are located throughout, and they seem to have a choice of Pay TV and free-to-air channels going on different screens; most of it sports.
