Three Blue Ducks, Bronte

I have wanted to try out the Three Blue Ducks restaurant in Bronte for lunch ever since news broke of Mila Kunis and Aston Kutcher being spotted eating there not once but twice on a visit. This was obviously the place to be, if Mila and Ashton were willing to risk being bombarded with swarms of crazy fans like myself two days in a row for this food. Well it had to be good - right?

The restaurant is located at 141-143 MacPherson Street in Bronte. It is walking distance to the beach, so it's perfect for a pre breakfast swim or post swim lunch, or if you are feeling peckish mid way on the Coogee to Bondi walk - it is worth a little hike up to check out. The decor is extremely trendy. Fantastic graffiti murals span across the walls, and there is a little alley that divides the restaurant from the bar with a great little vertical garden adorning the wall.

The staff are extremely pleasant, and again very trendy. Lots of tats, fashionable glasses and enviable hairstyles. We were seated straight away, although it was quite busy and we were given the option of sitting inside or outside. We choose a seat beside the open windows at the front. Although unfortunately there was no Mila or Ashton on this occasion, it was definitely a great place to people watch.

The menu looked great and included things like citrus cured salmon with wakame salad, corn puree and puffed black rice, or a hearty steak sandwich with red pepper mayo, tomato, onion marmalade and rocket. We choose the braised lamb shoulder, eggplant romesco, pearl barley salad and dukkha and the fishcakes with butter lettuce, peas, shallots, lemon and gentleman's relish. On arrival we were both delighted with our choices. Aesthetically the dishes brought on a serious case of mouthwatering, and on the first bite we weren't disappointed by the taste. It was phenomenal.

The fish cakes were perfectly cooked, and unlike other fish cakes they had plenty of meat in them and the accompanying gentleman's relish was lip smackingly delicious. It was a herbed yogurt dressing with plenty of zest, and it really brought the whole dish together.

The lamb was the standout dish on the day, although it was a warm summers day it was the perfect combination of being warm and meaty, yet the pearl barley salad and eggplant romesco were quite light accompanists so that it didn't feel too heavy.

The food was served promptly, and I really enjoyed soaking up the surrounding atmosphere while we ate. Although we were thoroughly satisfied with our lunch we didn't stop there. On paying at the counter there was a display of some of the most delicious, over the top cakes and sweet indulgences that were just calling our names.

We decided to opt for a poppy seed, orange, cranberry and dark chocolate muffin topped with some cream cheese and a sprinkling of all of said ingredients. It was huge and appeared to be more than enough for us to share, however after experiencing that first mouthful after leaving I thoroughly regretted not getting my own. It was to die for. Scrumptiously delicious, moist, packed with flavour, and it left us talking about it all afternoon.

All in all I highly recommend Three Blue Ducks for those looking for a delicious breakfast or lunch spot in the Eastern Suburbs, or even just for a sit down drink and chance to try and spot some possible celebs lurking around. It is definitely going to be one of my new regulars, and it is going to take some serious willpower not to go back every weekend just for one of those muffins.
