Bread Circus Wholefoods Canteen Alexandria
[Linkhttp://www.breadandcircus.com.au/ Bread & Circus Wholefoods Canteen] makes for a welcome change from many of the small, generic cafés populating the suburb of Alexandria.
Large open spaces and canteen style seating with communal wooden tables fill Bread & Circus. Fresh, seasonal produce, such as pumpkins decorate the tables and liven up the potentially sterile canteen atmosphere. Pink plates and decorative pink tiling complete the look and give the place a unique, vintage vibe.

Surrounding the open space of the canteen are several other food options, including Pana Chocolate - a raw, vegan café, and Campos Coffee.

The menu changes daily, with a focus on fresh, seasonal produce, but always features food under a few key categories: bread, 'things with fruit', soups, salads, daily plates and sandwiches.
Casual dining on communal tables provides a great opportunity to meet new people.
The dishes I ordered were from the salad section of the menu. Faced with all the deliciously healthy salads before me, I couldn't pick just one, so went with a half and half option of cous cous coleslaw and roasted zucchini. I also added a side of poached chicken, which was tender and flavoursome, despite being cooked without oil or fat. The final dish sampled was the avocado and goats cheese on house made organic sourdough bread.
Faced with so many amazing options, its hard to pick just one.
Drinks at Bread & Circus include fresh pressed juices, tea, smoothies, refreshing and detoxifying lemon juices and classic drinks such as Himalayan English breakfast tea and coffee. A personal favourite of mine is the organic lemongrass and ginger soy chai with honey. I also ordered a skim latte and the Kyoto green tea; which was creamy with a delicious caramel flavour.
Cute pink crockery completes the vintage look.
Bread & Circus Wholefoods Canteen is a wonderful experience, with exceptional fresh food and an innovative and ever changing menu, coupled with a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere that is hard to beat.
