Campos Coffee Newtown
Anyone who owns their own coffee machine would know that the morning routine of rolling out of bed, turning on the coffee machine and allowing the aroma of coffee to fill the air is sacred. Hence my recent dilemma while on holidays in Queensland. January 2014...No coffee machine.
Each morning I would go to a different coffee shop searching for the perfect smell, the perfect texture and the perfect taste. Depending on where I went, it was either too bitter, too strong or simply wasn’t what I was looking for in a coffee.
Needing some groceries I ended up in a suburb called Benowa. Desperate for a coffee I decided to stop in at Connoisseurs Café. The owner was very talkative and very confident that his brand of coffee would have me coming back for more. I walked off thinking to myself that that was what everyone says. How wrong I was. I was in coffee heaven. Up until that moment I had never heard of
Campos Coffee . This was the smoothest tasting coffee I have ever had. No bitterness, no sour taste, and definitely not strong. This was the perfect morning coffee with just enough kick to get the day started; just enough get up and go for me to keep up with the kids and all those theme park rides.
I arrived in Sydney late last night, and the first thing I did (other than wash the thousand clothes we used, trust me the topic of driving holidays with my husband and children is another blog in itself) was to get on the computer and find Campos coffee stockists.
There I was this morning, kids in tow heading to Newtown. Campos Coffee is situated on Missenden Road, Camperdown. The Camperdown store is their Flagship store and holds the highest amount of products available in comparison to coffee shops that may only supply the one blend. Surrounded by a large number of coffee shops, it takes pride of place on the corner with its olive green exterior. Inside is long and narrow with ample seating for those who had time for coffee and cake. I, however, was there for the take home pack of coffee. With a range of coffee available, Campos have something to suit everyone’s taste. You can find Campos Coffee in many coffee shops around Sydney, including Copo Café in Drummoyne; The Bunker in Darlinghurst; Boschetto in Rockdale, as well as Astor Espresso in Glebe. The other great thing they also do here is have Cupping Sessions. They have one room totally allocated for groups of eight to come in and experience the behind the scenes of coffee making and tasting. Each session runs for 45 minutes at a cost of $30. For lovers of coffee, this is a great opportunity to sample different blends and see exactly how it all comes together.
Personally my choice was the Campos Superior Blend, ($14.50 per 250g bag) which is the standard coffee served. However, depending on your taste also available for purchase are Dark, Organic and Decaf blends. Prices range from $14 to $15.50 per 250g bags.
I have been drinking the same coffee brand for over ten years and never thought I would change, however, Campos Coffee may have just changed my mind. Definitely worth trying.
