Garfish Crows Nest

It always makes me happy to see the words big breakfast on a menu.

One of my favourite meals to eat out is breakfast. And of the numerous breakfasts I've tried in Sydney, I keep coming back to Garfish in Crows Nest. They epitomise simple but stylish food using high quality ingredients, and are great at providing gluten free meals.

And Im made even happier when I see gluten free options available

I find myself time and time again going for the full breakfast there, which includes some of the tastiest bacon you'll ever find; eggs done any way; toast (which I always get gluten free) and a tomato relish. You can go one further and get their big breakfast, which also includes mushrooms, tomato and morcilla sausage. There are a number of lighter options for those who prefer, including house made muesli or fruit plates. I like to wash my breakfast down with their loose-leaf peppermint tea, but their coffee and juices also hit the spot.

Garfish has a picturesque spot for outdoor seating

Despite my personal preferences being for breakfast, what Garfish is truly known for is their seafood. In fact, they call themselves Australia's best seafood restaurant, which is quite a claim to live up to. I wish I could advise on whether or not this claim is warranted, but I'm not much of a seafood person so have never actually tried it.

The indoor seating is light and airy

What I do like at Garfish though is the atmosphere. It's a friendly cafe-style restaurant, with both indoor and outdoor seating. The indoor seating is very open and airy, overlooking the outdoor seats which are framed by green plants and big shady umbrellas. In rainy weather they have some pull-out shelters, and when it gets cold the overhead gas heaters come out, as well as little blankets you can drape over your lap while you eat.

Garfish has a great menu to tantalise your tastebuds

The staff here are some of the nicest I've come across. I've been there so regularly they quite often remember my order, but even when it's someone new they always have a kind greeting and a smile to share. They are very accommodating of changes to menu items as well, and I've never once been greeted with a blank stare when asking about gluten free items. In fact, their lunch and dinner menu has 'GF' clearly marked on it for the items that are already gluten free.

In cold weather youll find little blankets draped across the backs of these chairs for you to cosy up under

There is metered on-street parking outside Garfish, as well as the Holtermann Street car park which offers two hours free parking. There is also another car park on Hume Street which is within easy walking distance. If you prefer to travel by bus, there are numerous stops on nearby Willoughby Road.

Garfish is especially known for their seafood

Garfish also has locations in Manly and Kirribilli. I've not yet been to either of these, but if they are anything like their Crows Nest counterpart, I know to expect the highest quality food and service.

Their chalkboard menu makes for some mouth watering reading
