Gelato Messina Parramatta
I was walking down Church Street in Parramatta after having lunch with my boyfriend one day. We were rather full, but my boyfriend had a craving for dessert, so we decided to look around and see what dessert places we could find. I vaguely remembered that they had a Cold Rock ice creamery on Church Street, so I decided we'd go there for dessert, when I spotted a few women eating ice cream out of cups that resembled Gelato Messina. To my utter delight, we found that they had opened a new Gelato Messina store on Church Street.
Gelato Messina is one of the most popular dessert places in Sydney, and in my opinion, also one of the best. Previously they've only had outlets around the city and in Bondi, but with a newly opened store in Parramatta, no longer will I have to go as far as the city to get a good dessert dose.
Flavours at Gelato Messina
Located on the busy strip of Church Street in Parramatta, there were no lack of customers on a Thursday around lunchtime. The bustling air of the newly opened Parramatta store just demonstrates how popular and beloved Gelato Messina really is.
Outside Gelato Messina
There was a small crowd of customers when I arrived, which quickly dispersed due to the fast serving time.
Just as with their other branches, Gelato Messina's Parramatta branch had a board of limited time special flavours, and a large variety of their regular flavours.
I saw my favourite flavours there, such as Dulce De Leche, and Salted Caramel with White Chocolate Chip, along with other delectable sounding flavours such as Gianduia Bianca, Pecan Pie and Poached Figs in Marsala.
Specials board at Gelato Messina
I opted for two scoops of gelato in a cup, with flavours that didn't disappoint: Salted Caramel with White Chocolate Chip, and Milk Chocolate with Choc Peanut Fudge ($6 for two flavours). Milk Chocolate with Choc Peanut Fudge was a flavour I hadn't tried before.
It was had the creamy sweetness of milk chocolate, with the nutty hint of peanut. The Salted Caramel with White Chocolate Chip is one of my all-time favourite Gelato Messina flavours, and also one of their most popular.
Milk Chocolate with Choc Peanut Fudge, and Salted Caramel with White Chocolate Chip.
The Salted Caramel with White Chocolate Chip had the distinct flavour of caramel with a hint of saltiness and white chocolate flakes that provided a lovely contrast to the overall creaminess of the gelato. There was a limited seating area outside of Gelato Messina, with very small stools and small tables. It's not the most comfortable, so I'd probably get takeaway for next time. The serving staff were also lovely and happy to explain the flavours. My only complaint was that the serving sizes at the city branches were much larger than the one I was served at Parramatta.
Other than that, I found the quality to be consistent with their other stores, and am pleased that they've opened a new store closer to home.
