Leura Gourmet Cafe Deli Leura
The
Leura Gourmet Cafe & Deli is a delightful, mandatory eatery when you are fortunate enough to visit the quaint town of Leura in the Blue Mountains.
The cafe menu fits on one page, but don't let that fool you. There are seasonal specials available daily in case you become a regular. For the size of the actual cafe space, the amount of food pumped out is incredible.
For a great lunch, you can't go past the flavoursome Tandoori chicken with mango raita, papadums and yellow rice ($23). Unfortunately the papadums in the photo are hiding the magic that is the combination of mango raita and chicken.
Next is the gourmet duck, orange and pistachio sausages with potato mash and a beetroot relish ($23). While not the most photogenic dish, it is certainly the quickest to be wiped off its plate. The sausages are deli quality and show the cafe's expertise when it comes to flavour combinations.
Lastly, the humble chicken, potato and leek pie with potato mash ($20) is a great Winter warmer option. Unfortunately the pie on the day contained a slightly watery mixture of its contents, however the pastry is pie perfect (even if it does look like a bread roll in the photo).
A great range of drinks are on offer to wash down a great meal. Ciders, juices and more.
I was slightly at a loss for what to order as my drink - the cafe offers everything from cider to fresh juices and all of your regular beverages.
The most memorable and great tasting drink I have ever come across Pop Art Lemon Lime Bitters.
Coffee lovers ahoy
The cafe offers both sit in and takeaway coffee, much to the benefit of local workers on a lunch break.
WEGA coffee machines should stand for Wonderful Extractor of Goodness Allthetime.
And for dessert, you might want to try some lovely Serendipity icecream - it's delicious. Try some at the cafe (120mL for $3.75), or take your favourite flavour home with you (500mL for $9.95),
Two sizes cater to most appetites
Stock up on honey when you drop in, youll need it in Winter as a great natural addition to your usual cuppa.
Forget buying honey and preserves from the supermarket, Leura Gourmet Cafe & Deli has an abundance of local produce ripe for the picking. The actual deli counter itself offers a multitude of cold cuts, small goods, cheeses, olives and more. Bring a picnic basket and blanket, an esky and freezer block, some fresh bread rolls and cutlery; then head to the deli and you can have yourself a lovely picnic in the nearby park, or head on to other scenic positions around Leura or nearby Katoomba.
If you drive up, there is plenty of parking available in the side streets, however the walk from the car to the cafe will probably involve a few inclines.
If you catch the train to Leura station, the cafe is within 100m on the main road.
