Loving Hut Bankstown
A local favourite in the Bankstown area is the
Loving Hut . This popular vegan restaurant that lines the streets of Bankstown is also available in Cabramatta and Canley Heights. Any vegans or vegetarians (like myself) will find themselves growing excited at the prospect at eating at an entirely vegan restaurant without having to add changes to a dish, or double check the ingredients at normal places.
Light and refreshing
Our entrée was the Tofu and Cucumber Salad ($8). To describe this dish in two words, it would be light and refreshing. Wanting to try something other than our usual fresh veggie spring rolls, we were not disappointed and definitely did not regret ordering it. The tofu was presented in thin strips and was crispy and delicious, a contrast to the cucumber that was nice and cool. The slight tanginess of the sauce was enhanced by the subtle hint of chilli added for some extra flavour and zing.
An appetising main meal
Braised tofu with mushroom and lemongrass sauce ($10) is a dish that is one of my all time favourites. The tofu, unlike our first dish, was nice and chewy. There were a lot of mushrooms of two different varieties: Chinese and button mushrooms, and both were cooked well and were a joy to eat. The lemongrass sauce was a thicker sauce with a unique taste of a hint of ginger and lemon. It wasn’t too overpowering, and I really enjoyed it; but this time, while the chilli added was a bit too much for me, my boyfriend enjoyed that extra spice.
Well cooked, but not what Im used to.
Accompanying our main dish was brown rice ($3). It was the first time I had tried it, and I have to say that I prefer white rice instead. However, in saying that, I am putting it down to personal taste as I found that the rice itself was fresh and well cooked. Just not what I am used to.
A bit bland
For drinks, I ordered the Thai tea ($3). It was a bit bland, and needed to be a bit more sweeter to add some flavour. It wasn’t the best I have tasted. My boyfriend ordered his usual Coconut juice ($3) which he commented that it was refreshing and sweet.
Sweet and light
Our meals did not take too long to come out, and the service was quick and efficient. It should also be dutifully noted that my meat-loving boyfriend loves this place as much as I do, as the meals are tasty and healthy, and it is a clean and simple restaurant. Definitely a local favourite and a go-to place for any vegans, vegetarians, or anyone that is hungry and looking for a cheap but filling place to eat.
