The Burger Shed Mosman
A gluten free cheese and bacon burger that is just heaven on a bun
Sea salt hot chips
I have officially found my favourite burger joint, thanks to
The Burger Shed in Mosman. Only having opened last year, The Burger Shed on Military Road has already proven itself a popular destination for those in need or want of a really good burger. The owners have actually spent ten years trying to figure out how to make the perfect burger, and they believe they've nailed it now. Given that their idea of the perfect burger includes free range Angus and Wagyu beef, I'd have to agree with them.
The classic Shed Burger
The Burger Shed prides itself on its 'Rules.' Don't worry, these aren't for patrons, but for the eatery itself to live by. These rules include using free range meat and local ingredients that are delivered daily, as well as food that is only ever made to order. This really does make a difference to the taste; a difference you will notice from the very first bite.
BBQ corn with chilli salt butter on skewers ready for eating
Because the burgers at The Burger Shed really are just that amazing. I tried them many months ago, close to when they originally opened, and while the burgers were tasty, they were a little on the small side and not worth it for the price. Other customers agreed, and the owners listened. Now you get really big burgers that will leave you absolutely full, and the taste of them is like a flavour explosion. And best of all for coeliacs like me, they not only offer gluten free buns (that taste really good), they understand that the filling needs to be gluten free as well. Their fish burgers are the only ones that aren't gluten free - the others are completely gluten free when ordered with a GF bun. Even the sauces are, which is such a bonus.
Bringing one of these bags home is more exciting than it seems
And the sauces are part of what makes the burger. When I recently took a bite into my gluten free cheese and bacon burger, I got an explosion of mustard aioli and tomato relish that made my tastebuds dance. This combined with the best quality beef and bacon, vintage cheddar and long strips of pickles left me dreaming of burgers, and I went back the very next week for another one.
The staff are knowledgeable and careful with gluten free orders
The sides at The Burger Shed are pretty special too. Two of them are gluten free; the coleslaw and the barbeque corn with chilli salt butter. I've only tried the corncobs so far. Smoky and just a little bit spicy, they come skewered so that they aren't too messy to eat. Just check a mirror afterward, because you might have chilli flakes stuck to your teeth! Other side options are sea salt fries or truffle and parmesan fries, which I have on good authority from my non-coeliac friends are amazing.
Love opening that black and white box up to see this
Drinks aren't forgotten either. Soft drinks come in glass bottles, or you can get fresh sodas in flavours like lemongrass and kaffir lime or watermelon and ginger. They also do Shed Shakes with amazing flavours like caramel butter popcorn. There are a number of salads for the little more health conscious, and smaller options for kids.
The Burger Shed is my new favourite burger joint
The people behind The Burger Shed are so forward thinking that they even have their own app through which you can order food. I've so far only ordered over the phone, as I wanted to question them about their gluten free options. The gluten free options are not listed on the menu, but if you talk to the staff, they are really knowledgeable about their products and issues like cross contamination.
Located in the strip of shops along Military Road in Mosman
The Burger Shed is not just my favourite burger joint now - I think it might be my favourite takeaway place. And as someone who really enjoys their food, that is really saying something.
I would recommend The Burger Shed to every burger lover out there
