Located just an hour south of Sydney, in the idyllic, seaside town of Thirroul is Ryan’s Hotel. Whilst the exterior of the building appears to be quite simple, it’s what’s on offer inside that makes the drive south worth it.

Ryans Hotels simple exterior.

Aside from hotel rooms, Ryan’s also offers amenities including a casual restaurant, a bistro with a beer garden, a Thai restaurant and a Bottle Shop.

Every Sunday morning between 8:30 and 11:30 the casual restaurant, known as ‘The Deck’, which, as the name suggests, is situated on the deck of the hotel, offers breakfast.

Quaint chalkboard advertisement.

Could I just have one of each The Decks breakfast menu.

Popular with the locals, the menu offers simple, yet tasty breakfast meals, including staples such as smashed avocado on grilled sourdough, eggs (all of which are organic free range) and bacon. It’s also worth trying the baked quinoa with cannelloni beans – a surprisingly enjoyable addition to a breakfast meal.

Colourful teapots and a killer view.

Sunday morning breakfast at The Deck is an enjoyable experience for the entire family. There is plenty of seating available, all of which offers views of the luscious, green escarpment and the quaint south end of the main street. The service is just how you’d want it to be for a Sunday morning; friendly and smiley.

Staple breakfast item eggs Benedict with wilted spinach, slow roasted tomatoes on grilled sourdough with lemon hollandaise and crispy bacon.

Breakfast at The Deck is definitely worth making a day trip from Sydney for. You can escape the hustle of the busy city, and instead enjoy a tasty breakfast amongst the rugged escarpment and finish the day off with a meander around the unique boutique stores, or at the beach – all of which are a short walk from Ryan’s Hotel.

Delicious baked quinoa and cannelloni beans with egg, feta and grilled sourdough.
