Outside The Tart Sisters

You may be familiar with the name The Tart Sisters or without even knowing it, you may have possibly eaten one of their delicious products. They have been creating wonderful cakes and tarts for many years. Their delicious products can be found in cafés and delicatessens all over the city.

Beautiful and scrumptious sweets

Four weeks ago they opened a small shop in Ashfield, right next door to their kitchen where all of their creations are made fresh on a daily basis, ready for you to buy. Using only freshly sourced ingredients and eliminating anything artificial and with no preservatives – you can expect nothing less than quality desserts.

Driving down Holden Street, and if you are not aware that it is there you won’t even notice it. It was only with the addition of a small blackboard on the foot path that made me realise that there was actually a shop there. The shop was very small inside, standing room only. There were no tables or chairs or coffee or drinks. It’s simply a place to stop for an on the go snack or a take home pack of treats. It had a small glass cabinet full of cakes as well a trolley with deliciously looking and smelling flat breads. They do not make large quantities of their cakes and tarts, and all cakes are not available every day. They pride themselves on giving their customers freshly baked goods.

For the savoury lovers

The first thing I saw was a small batch of chocolate and raspberry brownies ($3.50). I bought one, however on closer inspection of the beautiful fresh raspberries, it was evident that I had to take two. This was simply heavenly. It was soft, rich and moist. The brownie was slightly undercooked, and gave it that gooey texture that just melted in my mouth. With the addition of raspberries, this was a winner on every single level of my taste buds. This was one of those desserts that long after you have eaten it, the taste lingers in your mouth – and you know you will defiantly be going back on a regular basis.

Yum

Other available cakes and tarts also included Strawberry and Rhubarb Shortcake ($3.50), large chocolate hazelnut biscuits ($3) and gluten free lemon polenta cake ($3.50).

For savoury lovers you have the choice of Goats cheese, roast tomato and basil ($4) or Roast pumpkin, feta and pine nut flat bread ($4.50).

Cant wait to tuck into this

The Tart Sisters is most definitely worth stopping at. Felicity and Claire are two of the friendliest people you will meet, and are more than happy to stop and have a chat while you are there. Whatever you do, make sure you do not go home without a chocolate and raspberry brownie, ok maybe two. It really is something special. I would strongly recommend a take home pack of treats.

The Tart Sisters offer catering and delivery services. Keep them in mind for you next party.
