Three Williams Redfern

Three Williams Redfern

Three Williams is a welcome addition to the Redfern café and dining scene. Located on Elizabeth Street, with a spacious interior layout, the basement style café has plenty of seating and a kids play area located towards the back.

Part of the appeal with Three Williams is the simple, no fuss approach to everything. One of its founders was involved in both The Grounds and Sonoma when they were getting started, so Three Williams could have become more of a dining experience; but that wouldn’t have suited the area or the clientele. As it happens, the great food, coffee and clean yet stylish layout are working wonders - so why change a thing?

We went for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised to discover we’d beaten the lineup, and therefore we were able to step straight inside and order within a minute or two. Ordering doesn’t take long as the menu isn’t huge. While there is something for just about all tastes, but you’ll need to choose carefully if you’re avoiding dairy.

The first question I got was whether I wanted a brewed chai or a latte style one which was nice to be asked. I went with a Chai Latte, and it was served with delicious honey that tasted like iron bark or something similar. The cappuccino and standard coffees were all done well too. I also had a special request on my Ranch breakfast; no bacon, and I’m happy to say that this was no issue, and I didn’t get bacon when it came. The slaw underneath the perfectly fried egg was fresh and delicious too, but the brioche bun was too much to finish all of it.

The sides you can order all looked really good - avocado, feta, hash and roma tomatoes to name a few. I wanted some hash to replace the bacon, but there was a charge if I did that so I just left it. Will have to try the hash next time.

There is a bustling feeling inside the dining area, but it’s all kept well under control and not so loud that you can’t enjoy good conversations; on that it would be worth catching up here for a chat or having a meeting in one of the tables towards the back.

Our food and drinks all came quickly, and drinks first, which is what I always prefer (some places can be slower with drinks so that you’re already eating by the time your coffee comes, which is not cool in my opinion). We spotted a couple of other dishes we wanted to try too, including the breakfast burrito, bircher muesli and avocado on sourdough toast, so will have to try them next time. All in all, Three Williams is a great breakfast spot, and the food is made by people with a passion for great flavour. You can taste it in every bite.
