Wine Tastings at The Ivy Bottle Shop
I loved the antipasto as equally as the wine
Quietly ensconced on the avenue of one of Sydney’s most prestigious clubs, is
The Ivy’s Bottle Shop . Amid the array of different party goers all weekend long, you can find a quiet place to consume and learn about various wines from all over the world. The Bottle Shop is your regular liquor store, set in one of those traditional trapeze-windowed shopfronts - adding a touch of class to a rather chaotic club scene.
Upstairs you’ll find your own secluded mezzanine, a table set among the various wines to be tasted. I recently had the pleasure of attending a bachelorette party there. We all dressed up in little black dresses and fine jewellery, all reminiscent of the
Golden Age of Hollywood, and gathered to be educated and taking notes on enjoying wine.
Where all the fun happened
We had our own sommelier, or wine waiter which started us off with champagne (yay) and then guided us through various white, sparkling and red wines. He highlighted the tastes, textures and features of each wine; the various countries and regions they came from, and what type of wines go with which meals. We had an amazing assortment of cheeses, prosciutto, antipasto, crackers and fruits to accompany our tasting experience. There were second ‘rounds’ available for those who liked particular wines, and they could all be purchased below at the counter.
This three-hour wine tasting was a wonderful new experience, and quite affordable too at $40 per person. It’s the perfect way to kick off a bachelorette party, and become a wine connoisseur in no time.
