Zeds at the Inn Strathfield
The friendly staff at
Situated inside the Spanish Inn Motor Lodge,
Zed’s at the Inn is one of the nicest Italian restaurants in the local area, and has been since its opening six years ago. The traditional tastes of Italy, right here in Sydney. On arrival you are greeted by the friendly staff, and are offered a choice of dining indoors or out. Inside has a modern decor with warm brown tones, however we chose to sit outside surrounded by fairy lights in the slight breeze that makes this night the perfect night to be dining outdoors.
Delicious indeed
The menu offers a range of choices from starters to tapas - as well as pizza, pasta, mains and desserts. What I like most is that the menu is easy to read with enough description for you to know exactly what you are ordering.
There are a number of starters to choose from, yet I couldn’t go past the Garlic Crust Pizza ($14). With diced tomatoes and the most delicious Olive tapenade, this is a great way to start the night. Ok, so I know I said I could not go past the Garlic Crust Pizza; however the only thing was I also could not go past the crispy Calamari ($21) and creamy Tortellini Boscaiola ($18 main size). It’s like you want a bit of everything and the way I see it is, I’m sharing the entree with others. Therefore in reality I’m not really eating that much am I?
Beautiful food to share
When it comes to mains, your choice is simply limited by your taste. From Chicken Schnitzel ($23), to Veal Parmigiana ($26) and Spaghetti Marinara ($32) - there is something for everyone. For tonight my money is on the Spaghetti Marinara. It arrives and you are captivated by the smell, the look and with one mouthful the taste has you wanting more.
Perfectly cooked pasta in freshly made Napolitana sauce with a hint of chilli. Personally I don’t like a lot of chilli in my food, and this for me was the right amount. With an abundance of fresh scampi, morton bay bugs, octopus, calamari and prawns - this main is worth every cent. Not being a fan of morton bay bugs, the staff had no hesitation in eliminating them from the meal. Instead they added more prawns. Any alteration to the menu was not an issue for staff. Accommodating the customer was a high priority.
Heaven
I refused to go home without dessert. My choice was Tiramisu. However, you might prefer a Crème Caramel, Mud cake or Ricotta Cheesecake (all $9.50). You are instantly won over by its presentation. A tall glass filled with fluffy soft layers of sponge, liqueur and creamy mascarpone cheese. Combine that with an espresso or cappuccino ($4 each) and all is right with the world.
At the end of the night we were completely full. I thought I needed someone to roll me to my car. Looking back, perhaps I really did eat too much. However I am not complaining. The food was outstanding. From start to finish this night was fantastic. The service was quick, and if you want value for your money - this is definitely the place to go. Whether it’s dinner for two, for ten - or for a party of 100, you can’t go past Zed’s.
I had to go for some dessert
Zeds will be closing on the 21st December until the last weekend of January for their annual break. If you get the chance to go before they close, you won’t be disappointed. If not be sure to put this on your list of places to go in 2014. I would highly recommend a night out at Zed's at the Inn.
